Are you wasting money by throwing out food? Whether it’s because too much food was prepared or that fresh produce was forgotten about, food not being consumed before it spoils accounts for two-thirds of all household food waste and about $1,600 wasted yearly.
According to research conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), food waste is the “largest stream of materials in American trash”. Food waste is a huge environmental, economic, and social problem. Food waste not only generates billions of dollars in losses for the American economy, but also accounts for 23% of methane emissions into the atmosphere.
